We Give Back

CincyNanny is more than a community and a connector of nannies and families. We seek to rescue. (Strong word, I know.) Rescue moms that have to get back to work but need someone they can trust to care for their greatest asset. Rescue kids that need another person in their village, investing in their character and their future. Rescue caregivers that are realizing the dream of a rewarding career where their passion and skills are utilized. Rescue our industry, advocating for high-quality care, trained caregivers, long-term jobs, fair & legal pay, and domestic rights. Rescue, because we know we have the answers you are seeking.

Another new way to rescue.

Recently got to hear more about about the impact that International Justice Mission mission is making in the lives of children. Sometimes you want to close your eyes and hold your ears to the facts that modern day slavery is happening in this world. I heard the story of a 6 year old boy named Maarko that has rocked my world forever (a story that hurts to hear and tell). While I have personally known and championed IJM for years, CincyNanny is now an official partner, a “Freedom Fighter” for children who are trafficked. We agreed to 3 things: To pray for the organization, to advocate, and to fund the work IJM is doing to free children. We committed monthly to give a portion of our profits to rescue.

In addition, we have been speaking with Give Like A Mother, a local non-profit who collects clothing and supplies for children and teens who are in need. We love their heart; at GLAM they say “There is no such thing as other people’s children”. They run to the impoverished in our city that have tangible need. Nannies will have group service opportunities to prepare bags for these kids. We will also accept donations to send their way.

COVID-19 exposed a need for domestic workers and the Nanny Relief Fund began to meet those needs. 90% nannies are not paid legally… a startling statistic. That means receiving unemployment and the other benefits are not what they should. At CincyNanny, we fight for legal pay, but until we get there 100% we will also support those that are struggling now.

And, as you share, we share! As you may or may not know, we have a referral program. Send a family or nanny our way and if we place them, we give you a cash as thank you! For placed nannies – $100, for family clients – $250. You now may choose to forgo your cash thank you to put towards IJM or GLAM.

CincyNanny ultimately seeks to enrich the lives of children. We are just widening that impact and so excited about the children, like Maarko, who will be rescued.

Nanny Relief Fund was launched in April 2020 when the COVID-19 epidemic amplified the many inequities in the world of domestic employees, and the lack of protections and support accessible to nannies.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are over 1.1 million nannies currently working in the United States. This group is made up of 98% women (according to a survey by the International Nanny Association), has a high proportion of people of color, and represents many different countries of origin. Unfortunately, over 90% of nannies are not paid legally, or paid ‘on the books’ by their employers, and many have been critically impacted financially during this pandemic. For those nannies who are paid “under the table” or misclassified as independent contractors, unemployment, paid sick leave, and expansions of the Family Medical Leave Act are often not available. The choice of employers to not provide their employees lawful protections leaves many nannies financially vulnerable.

GIVE LIKE A MOTHER is a nonprofit, materials assistance program that helps children in need by providing them with clothing and equipment to meet their everyday needs.

We currently need volunteers and both material and monetary donations. All material donations must be from a smoke free home. We take new or gently used clothing, shoes, and coats of all sizes. (All children’s sizes, as well as, adult clothing that a teen would wear). We accept equipment such as cribs, high chairs, strollers, etc. We are always in need of new underwear and socks. Other needs include storage bins, shelving, hanging racks, laundry detergent, and office supplies. We cannot accept toys at this time. GIVE LIKE A MOTHER is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization. Tax-deductible receipts available.
